BENTONG: Over the next six months, residents here will be able to provide their viewpoints on the Bentong Local District Draft Plan 2035.

Bentong MP Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said that residents' views are important as there were several infrastructure developments that would impact the town and shape it over the next 18 years.

Speaking at the launch of a publicity event at the Bentong Municipal Council on Tuesday morning, Liow said that he did not wish to see Bentong develop into a concrete jungle like Petaling Jaya.

Liow, who is also Transport Minister, said it was important for Bentong to play to its strengths such as agro-tourism to develop economically.

"With infrastructure development and no economic growth, we will end up feeling pressure or become an old folk's town as more and more youth leave for the city," said Liow.

Liow also held a question-and-answer session with the attendees, who were from local non-governmental organisations, businesses as well as MPB councillors.

Meanwhile, PLANMalaysia Director-General Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the Federal and the Pahang governments would jointly fund the draft plan's studies.

"The cost is estimated to come up to RM1mil as we gather data such as traffic, tourism and economic figures and other statistics to provide a complete picture for Bentong's future planning," said Zainuddin.
