PETALING JAYA: Former deputy minister Datuk Dr Awang Adek Hussin (pic) has been appointed the new chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara).
The appointment, which takes effect on Sept 1, was confirmed by Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob in a statement on Tuesday.
Dr Awang Adek, who most recently served as Malaysian Ambassador to the United States from 2014 to 2016, will take over from Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa.
Annuar had previously announced his intention not continue as Mara chairman.
"I am confident that with the experience possessed by Dr Awang Adek, he will be able to lead Mara in implementing the Ministry's policies and plans towards achieving the objectives outlined under the National Transformation programme," said Ismail Sabri.
Dr Awang Adek served as deputy finance minister from 2006 to 2013 and was deputy rural and regional development minister from 2004 to 2006.
He also served as a Dewan Negara senator from 2009 to 2013.
