KUALA LUMPUR: To celebrate Asean's 50th anniversary, Wisma Putra is marking the event with a host of activities including performances and dances from all 10 member countries.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to launch the Asean@50 celebration at Suria KLCC on Aug 14.

After the launch, activities will kick off at 2pm with a dance performance by the National Department of Culture and Arts, followed by a talk by former ambassador Datuk Zulkifli Yaacob on travelling tips for Malaysians.

The Asean@50 celebration will also have a line-up of fun activities for youngsters aged 15 and below.

Members of the public will also have an opportunity to watch a musical performance by the Philippines Embassy and an Indonesian "Wayang" presentation on the history of Indonesia's traditional puppets.

A Myanmar traditional dance will take centre stage during the event followed by a performance by singing sensation Nadia Hasnan of Akademi Fantasia at 5pm.

Malaysians will have a rare opportunity to witness a performance of Thai traditional martial arts "Ong Bak".

Another highlight is the "Wonderful Malaysiana", which will see performers dancing away to a mixture of prominent Malaysian dances.
