PETALING JAYA: A group of Umno division vice-chairmen has come to the defence of Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi over his alleged meeting with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on overthrowing the Prime Minister.
Dr Mahathir’s claim that the Deputy Prime Minister had met with him to seek support and sympathy to replace Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was a “naughty mind game”, said 1Malaysia Umno Division Vice-Chiefs Club chairman Datuk Anuar Mohamad Yunus.
He added that Dr Mahathir’s motive was to disrupt the stability of Umno and the Barisan Nasional-led Government.
“The club is confident that the close relationship between the Prime Minister and his deputy will not be easily affected by this little mind game,” said Anuar, who is also Temerloh Umno division vice-chief, at a press conference yesterday.
The club was formed about three years ago and has about 180 members.
Some 30 committee members were at the conference.
Umno and Barisan members, said Anuar, were focused on serving the people and preparing for the next general election, and had “no time to waste” on such allegations.
“We also pledge our support and loyalty to the leadership of Najib and Dr Ahmad Zahid,” he added.
