THE Government has identified 16 Malaysians who are conspiring against the nation and giving information to militants fighting in Marawi City, the Philippines.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim said he has received the names and photographs of these people whom he described as traitors.

“We have distributed their pictures so that we can hunt them down,” he said in response to a question by Datuk Jumat Idris (BN- Sepanggar) who asked about the security situation in Sabah in the wake of the fighting going on in southern Philippines.

Asked if it was possible for the militants to make their way into Sabah and the rest of the country, Shahidan said it was a long journey but did not rule out the possibility.

“The necessary action will be taken to prevent this,” he said.

The Filipino military is battling militants linked to the Islamic State in Marawi.

The fighting has been going on since May and many have been killed with hundreds of thousands displaced.
