PETALING JAYA: With about 500 children being killed in road accidents around the world every day, Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh has taken to the streets of London – kind of – to remind road users about the importance of child seats and safety belts.

Posters of the acclaimed Hollywood actress were recently seen at bus stops all over London, part of a campaign urging motorists to use safety belts for children travelling in the car.

Yeoh also posted a photograph of the road safety campaign poster on Facebook, adding that the picture can be seen in London and Australia.

"Road safety is crucial for all of us," said Yeoh about the poster that reads "today, 3,500 people will die on the road. Use a child safety seat".

Yeoh is currently the Safe Steps Road Safety Ambassador, the Global Road Safety Ambassador for the UN Decade for Road Safety 2011-2020 and a spokesman for the International Automobile Federation (FIA) High Level Panel for Road Safety.

She is also the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Goodwill Ambassador.

The worldwide campaign seeks to reduce road fatalities by five million before 2020.

In a 40-second video released by the FIA, Yeoh can be seen educating viewers on how to protect children.

She called on viewers to ensure that "each child fastens their safety belt and younger children are seated on a child safety seat when travelling in a vehicle."

She has also appeared in a series of 60-second educational videos and a 45-second video for the Safe Steps Road Safety campaign highlighting why road safety is a crucial issue.

Yeoh has starred several acclaimed movies including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Memoirs of a Geisha.

She is currently working on her upcoming film Crazy Rich Asians, and television series Star Trek Discovery.
