KUALA LUMPUR: Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan brought her brand of glamour to the grand opening of Juiceco in Malaysia, located at Jalan Telawi, Bangsar.
Hundreds of fans – some even flying down from Penang – who had been lining up since before 5pm, gave her a rousing welcome when she made her appearance at about 7.30pm.
Things got a little out of control when an eager mob of fans crossed the barriers to get closer to their idol despite heavy crowd control.
Looking resplendent in an off-shoulder cream and black ensemble, Kareena said: “I love you, Malaysia. Everytime I come here, it’s hard to leave, there is so much love. I feel at home here.
“I want to thank Juiceco for bringing me to my fans .... Keep calling me back to Malaysia.”
Juiceco is primed to be the largest juice store in Malaysia, offering fresh fruit juice, smoothies and fruit-based snacks, with 200 different types to choose from, with prices ranging between RM5 and RM15 per cup.
Juiceco, owned and managed by Vitamin Palace from the Middle East, has stores in India.
Kareena said she was asked to pick a juice from 200 choices.
“Who has that kind of choice? I’ve never been given that choice before. And ‘Jamaica’ is my favourite. If that is my favourite, then it will be Malaysia’s favourite too.”
The company had announced Kareena’s visit last month by running a meet-and-greet contest on its Facebook page.
Forty winners were allowed onstage in groups of five to take a snapshot with the star.
Yesterday was not the first time that Kareena is launching a shop in Kuala Lumpur. She was at Jalan Masjid India two years ago for the opening of a jewellery store.
Kareena appeared in last year’s films Ki & Ka and Udta Punjab.
Late last year, the 36-year-old – who is married to actor Saif Ali Khan – had a son, Taimur Ali Khan.
Kareena, sister to actress Karishma Kapoor, comes from a family of actors – her grandfather is Raj Kapoor, known for his classic hit Sangam, and one of her uncles is Rishi Kapoor, known for his role in the romance hit Bobby.
She caught the attention of Bollywood fans when she appeared in Karan Johar’s 2001 hit Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
