SHAH ALAM: The Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor still exists due to the mandate given by the people in the last general election, said Ginie Lim, a spokesman of Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

"In terms of the state administration, the working relationship between all the parties that were given the mandate in the last election remains. That's what the Mentri Besar was explaining yesterday," she said on Thursday.

The main political priority, she added, was to reach consensus among Opposition parties at state and national level in the run-up to the upcoming general election.

A news portal reported Azmin as saying on Wednesday that the PR-led Selangor government still existed due to the mandate from the previous general election, while Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) was a member of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) political coalition.

Azmin was responding to questions on why there was no PH members in the Selangor administration.

He had said in the state context, PR "still exists because that was the mandate given by the rakyat" and he had to carry out the mandate given by the people.

Pakatan Rakyat, comprising PKR, DAP and PAS, formed the Selangor government after the 2013 General Election.

The pact was disbanded two years later after Amanah was formed by former PAS leaders who lost in the Islamist party's elections.

However, three PAS leaders continue to be executive councillors in the current Selangor administration along with DAP and PKR.

Amanah, PKR, DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia later formed Pakatan Harapan.

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, who reposted the article by Azmin on his Twitter account, described Azmin's stance as "utterly shocking" and "unacceptable."

DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara MP Tony Pua also reposted the article on Twitter and Facebook, with the comment "Laugh or cry?".
