BALIK PULAU: Police are looking for eyewitnesses of a hit-and-run accident here which took the life of an octogenarian on Fathers Day.

Wong Tam Sooi, 86, succumbed to serious injuries several hours after his bicycle was hit by a vehicle in front of a hardware shop in Jalan Sungai Pinang, Titi Teras, at about 6.55am on Sunday.

Wong, from Jalan Chai here, was sent to Balik Pulau Hospital where he died at 12.15pm the same day.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan said police were looking for eyewitnesses to assist in the probe.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the cyclist was hit from the back by a vehicle as the back part of the bicycle was damaged. Police only found a ‘2’ at the scene which is believed to be from the vehicle’s number plate.

“The driver has not lodged a police report so far,” he said in a statement.

Supt Anbalagan said police classified the case as a hit-and-run incident.
