MIRI: The Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP) says it will respect the Kuching High Court decision to reinstate DAP's Dr Ting Tiong Choon as Pujut assemblyman.

SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting said the party would continue to work hard to serve the Pujut constituency despite the cancellation of the by-election.

"SUPP will continue to serve the rakyat, including those in the Pujut constituency.

"With or without an election, our party will continue to do our best to look after the welfare of the people," said Ting, who is also Piasau assemblyman.

The Kuching High Court on Saturday morning overturned the decision by Sarawak state assembly speaker Datuk Amar Awang Asfia last month disqualifying Dr Ting for holding both Malaysian and Australian citizenship.

The Election Commission had set June 20 for nomination and July 4 for polling following the state assembly decision.

However, the latest court decision has rendered the by-election unnecessary.
