GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan has questioned the need for the terms ‘open area’ to be included in the recently passed Penang Stadium and Open Area Corporation Enactment 2017.

Its publicity bureau chief Ooi Zhi Yi said similar corporations in other states mostly focussed on the management of stadiums and sports facilities only.

“What are the plans for the open area?” he queried during a press conference at Penang Gerakan headquarters yesterday.

Ooi also asked which stadiums, sports facilities and public areas would come under the new corporation.

When contacted yesterday, Wong Hon Wai, who is Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s political secretary, said that the enactment was tabled and fully debated before it was passed in the State Assembly on May 25.

“None of the Barisan Nasional legislators participated in the debate. I’m puzzled why they did not raise the issue then. Gerakan can refer to the Hansard for the 45 minutes debate for a full report,” he said in a Whatsapp reply.
