Over 200 savour dumplings made by clans

BUKIT MERTAJAM: They came, they saw, they ate.

More than 200 people from va­­rious clans thronged the Insa Dunia Food Court in Jalan Kampung Baru here to take part in a dumpling tas­ting event on Sunday.

The dumplings were prepared by Pertubuhan Hakka Seberang Prai, Bukit Mertajam Hung Kung Asso­ciation, Hokkien Hoay Kuan of Pro­vince Wellesley, Persa­tuan Kwong Waai Siew Seberang Prai and Persatuan Hainan Seberang Prai.

Organising chairman Chong Moy Eng said the Hakka group prepared three types of dumplings – vegetarian, meat and sweet; the Hung Kung group made the savoury dumplings while the Hokkien team prepared two types of Nyonya dumplings.

The Kwong Waai Siew group, meanwhile, prepared the Cantonese savoury dumplings. The Hainan team came up with “pillow” dumplings and sweet dumplings.

They also sang the Hot Dumplings song before people were invited in.

Berapit assemblyman Lydia Ong, who launched the event, said a total of RM4,838 was spent for the event, including the RM500 given to each clan association.
