GEORGE TOWN: The aroma of delicious cookies wafted through the Pensonic headquarters in Bukit Minyak during a Kuih Raya Baking Challenge.
Forty employees of Flex from its seven plants in Penang took part in the competition which was held at the rented venue.
The top spot went to payroll specialist Faridatul Akmal Abdullah, 31, and technical trainer Nur Haszua Abdul Hamid, 33.
They took home RM2,000 for their Jambangan Seroja pineapple jam cookies that came in the shape of tulip flowers.
“We spent an hour to bake the cookies which we had made previously for our colleagues in Batu Kawan. They gave positive feedback,” said Faridatul.
The runners-up were store leader J. Vijakulamary, 48, and data entry administrator Sharifah Mat Salleh, 26, who bagged RM1,400 for their Cinta Maryfa Rainbow Cookies.
Third place went to procurement buyers Goay Ah Lee, 53, and Kang Jun Ying, 27, who won RM1,000 for their Rabbit Almond Cookies.
Each participant was also allowed to bring home the oven, mixer and utensils used during the event as memorabilia.
Present to judge the competition were George Town Festival director Joe Sidek, food blogger Faten Rafie and Flex (Asia) head of human resources Stella Chia.
The judging was based on flavour, texture, cleanliness, aestheticism, presentation, creativity and originality.
Flex (Asia) marketing and communications head Valerie Kurniawan said the event was organised to mark the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“It is also a reflection of Flex’s culture that recognises the importance of diversity. We encourage teamwork in a fun and friendly environment, where colleagues are supportive of each other,” she said, adding that the company has over 20,000 employees nationwide.
