Inspector shot lover not wife, say police

MIRI: Police believe the fatal shooting of a woman by an inspector in Serian in southern Sarawak was over personal issues.

They are also looking into the possibility that the two were married.

“Their marriage is not registered officially, they were boyfriend and girlfriend,” said Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor.

“He may have married her on the quiet but we are still probing that.

“As for claims that the victim was pregnant, we are also investigating,” he said, adding that the inspector was divorced.

Comm Mazlan said the pistol used in the shooting was officially assigned to the suspect by the police force.

“He is the inspector of Belaga and he was in Kuching for an official meeting,” he said.

“He was supposed to go back to Belaga after that but the shooting happened.”

The suspect was remanded on Monday for seven days.
