KEPALA BATAS: A former soldier charged in court in 2014 for possessing homemade air guns jumped bail and went back to his crooked ways.

Police arrested the 57-year-old man during a raid on his house in Simpang Empat, Permatang Buluh, near here at 8am on May 7 following a tip-off.

North Seberang Prai district police chief Asst Comm Azmi Adam said police found a homemade air gun and several components to produce such firearms in the house.

“The man admitted making nine homemade air guns so far,” he told a press conference yesterday. Also present were district CID chief Deputy Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib and Asst Supt Mohd Yusof Ibrahim who led the raid on the man’s house.

ACP Azmi said the former army man was charged in court in 2014 for possessing homemade air guns but jumped bail.

On an unrelated case, he said a police team which was also led by ASP Mohd Yusof nabbed an 18-year-old youth at a petrol station in Jalan Kulim, Bukit Mertajam, at about 1.45am on Tuesday for motorcycle theft.

ACP Azmi said the suspect confessed during interrogation that another person was also involved, following which police picked up a 16-year-old private college student at his hostel in Prai an hour later.

He said investigations revealed that both suspects stole a motorcycle in Butterworth on May 9.

He said police recovered several motorcycle parts which were cannibalised from stolen motorcycles worth about RM60,000 at the hostel premises.

ACP Azmi said police were looking for a third suspect in his late teens.
