KUALA LUMPUR: With just three days left, preparations are in full swing for Umno’s 71st anniversary celebrations on Thursday at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said preparations were at the final stage with 75% of works completed.
He said only some additional touch-ups on technical aspects and stadium props were needed.
“We expect the stadium to be flooded with our supporters who will be wearing red, based on the commitment given by each state’s liaison body,” he told reporters after a visit to the stadium yesterday.
“The anniversary will be celebrated with a gathering of more than 120,000 party members at the stadium.”
This could possibly be the last party anniversary before the 14th general election (GE14), which is widely expected to be called this year.
Ab Rauf said in line with the mood of GE14, it would showcase the unity among members based on the concept of upholding the party’s struggle and loyalty.
“The president is expected to give a speech to boost the spirit of party supporters, the machinery as well as its members as part of the preparations for the general election,” he said.
He noted that supporters and the public could attend various programmes, enjoy various forms of entertainment and a carnival starting from Wednesday.
“We will have a lucky draw with prizes such as cars for those who register under the ‘Malaysia 4 All’ mobile application on their smartphones.” he said.
“It is very simple. They only need to register their MyKad number on the mobile app and automatically qualify to win the prizes.
“However, I would like to stress that the participants need to be at the stadium or else they will be disqualified,” said Ab Rauf.
There will be some 10,000 job opportunities at a job carnival in conjunction with the party’s anniversary celebrations. In addition, about 50 registered food trucks will also be there.
Ab Rauf also urged the public to register as party members and voters during the event.
