JOHOR BARU: Police have busted a syndicate selling medical certificates purportedly from a government hospital with the arrest of four suspects.
State commercial crime chief Asst Comm Mohd Salleh Abdullah said the syndicate had been selling the fake medical certificates with the Sultanah Aminah Hospital stamp and serial number since last year.
He said each fake MC is sold for RM25 through a middleman.
"We managed to trace the syndicate after an employer went to the hospital to make inquiries about an MC submitted by an employee," he said in a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here on Sunday.
ACP Mohd Salleh said four suspects, aged between 28 and 37, were arrested during a series of raids conducted on May 3 and May 5 at Tampoi, Kampung Melayu Majidee, Taman Bukit Kempas, and Taman Desa here.
He added that the suspects were remanded to assist with investigations under Section 466 of the Penal Code for falsifying documents.
