Losing sleep: Residents of Taman Dato Kumbar waiting for floodwaters to subside after the three-hour downpour that lasted until 11pm.

ALOR SETAR: A three-hour downpour caused about 100 houses in several villages near here to be inundated including Kubang Rotan where residents considered it the worst flood they could remember.

Kedah Civil Defence Force spokesperson said the rain lasted from about 8pm until 11pm on Friday. However, there was no evacuation required.

“In some areas, the floodwaters reached 0.3m. The situation returned to normal at about 2am,” he said yesterday.

Kubang Rotan assemblyman Mohd Nasir Mustafa said it was the first time floodwaters entered the houses in his constituency.

“The residents here have never experienced such a situation,” he said.

Among the affected areas were BB Park in Simpang Kuala, Taman Markisa, Taman Wira in Mergong, Taman Dato Kumbar, Kampung Makcik Manja Lara, Taman Nakishah and Taman Saga.
