MALACCA: They left their homes excited to collect their Malaysian University English Test certificate, but barely an hour later, all three good friends were dead.
Mohd Aiman Hakim Badrul Hisham, Nik Muhammad Sajirin Nik Hazairi and Mohd Shawal Abdul Razak, all 19, died when their car was involved in an accident along Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway near Taman Cheng Bestari here.
In the 11.15am accident yesterday, the car which was driven by Mohd Aiman is believed to have skidded after hitting a pool of water on the highway.
It had rained earlier in the day.
The car swerved across the highway to the opposite lane, hitting an oncoming car, before turning turtle.
All three students of a university college here died on the spot from head and body injuries while the driver of the other car suffered a fracture in the left hand.
A nearby CCTV captured the accident and a lorry driver notified the authorities.
Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said the victims were on their way from Cheng Height in Malim to Krubong when the accident happened.
Kubu Fire and Rescue Department’s operation chief K. Kalaiselvam said eight personnel rushed to the scene after receiving distress calls.
Mohd Shawal’s mother Marizon Wahab, 44, said her eldest son left home at about 10.30am with his two friends.
“He was excited about getting the certificate as he was eager to further his studies. Less than an hour after leaving home, he was gone forever,” she said.
