ALOR SETAR: Following in the footsteps of the Ulama, PAS Youth has approved a motion to sever ties with PKR, citing, among others, a Selena Gomez concert for the “divorce”.

The motion, which was accepted unanimously by the delegates, was greeted with chants of Allahuakbar (God is great). Earlier, Kuala Terengganu representative Abdul Rahman Che Mat said the breaking of ties with its once ally in the Selangor government as talak tiga (the final dissolution of marriage).

“There have been all kinds of attacks and allegations against the PAS president.

“Previously, we cooperated with them based on several conditions. Since these conditions have been breached, we propose to end the relationship – cerai talak tiga,” he said in proposing the motion.

Shah Alam delegate Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim accused PKR of not being committed to strengthening Islam, citing the American pop singer’s concert in Shah Alam last July.

“PKR and the Selangor Mentri Besar have not shown commitment to strengthening Islam. For example, they were so excited to hold the Selena Gomez concert and completely disregarded the views of PAS, Muslim NGOs and the Muslim community,” he said.

PAS had protested against the concert, claiming that the singer was dressed too sexily.

PKR, said Aubidullah, had also proven to be an opportunistic party.

“To serve their own interests, they initiated the Kajang Move and unnecessarily sought the involvement of their allies,” he said.

The motion will now be brought to the muktamar starting today and will ultimately be deliberated by the party’s Syura Council.
