LENGGONG: Local products that are not well known outside the areas where they are made and sold should be given wider promotion, says Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaacob.
He said in order to realise the full potential of these products, the ministry will open up “premium outlets” for rural entrepreneurs at Rural Transformation Centres throughout the country.
These outlets, he said, will boost the publicity and marketing of such products made by rural entrepreneurs.
“Rural products have the potential. Some products can’t be made elsewhere,” he said.
“For example, in Lenggong, you can get ‘pekasam’ or ‘kebebe’. I’ve not heard of kebebe, but I was told it’s a niche product, he told reporters after closing the Lenggong Rural Entrepreneur Carnival in Lenggong Square yesterday.
“If we can market them by saying they are made only in this place, I’m sure they can sell quite well. Entrepreneurs should think in wider terms, not just think local alone,” he added.
