Penang govt to table motion against Shabudin at next assembly

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government wants action taken against Umno's Tasek Gelugor MP Datuk Shabudin Yahaya over his recent remarks in Parliament over sex crimes against children and child marriages.

State Youth and Sports, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Chong Eng (pic) said they would table a motion at the next state assembly sitting to condemn both Shahbudin and his party.

However, she said they would not proceed if he withdraws and apologises for his statement or if Umno takes any action against him.

"We see this as serious as it promotes a dangerous mindset," she said during the Penang World Hoops FIBA 3×3 Challenger press conference at Gurney Paragon Thursday.

On Tuesday, Shabudin said in Parliament that it was okay for rape victims to marry their rapist and claimed that some nine-year-olds who had reached puberty were "physically and spiritually ready" for marriage.
