KUALA LUMPUR: Samsung Malaysia Electronics has launched Samsung Pay, the company’s contactless payment system integrated into selected Galaxy smartphones.
Using Samsung Pay, customers will be able to make purchases at retail outlets by just tapping the Galaxy smartphone at the payment terminal.
“We are proud to call leading financial institutions and merchants our partners and to introduce Samsung Pay as the most widely accepted mobile payment service in Malaysia,” said Samsung Malaysia Electronics vice-president of the Mobile and IT business unit Lee Jui Siang.
Samsung Pay allows users to register up to 10 cards (which includes credit, debit and prepaid) with the smartphone’s digital wallet.
Users of Maybank, CIMB, Citibank and Standard Chartered cards who own a Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5, A5 (2016/17 models) or A7 (2016/17) will be able to take advantage of Samsung Pay.
Hong Leong Bank is expected to get on board with Samsung Pay very soon, with other banks to follow in the next two to three months.
Lee added that Samsung Pay supports over 90% of merchants in the country that include supermarkets, department stores, food and beverage outlets.
Samsung Pay also supports loyalty cards such as B Infinite, Bonuslink and Sunway Pals, with more loyalty brands expected to be added in the coming months.
Malaysia is the 11th country to launch Samsung Pay, joining the United States, Puerto Rico, Brazil, China, Australia, Russia, South Korea, Singapore, Spain and Thailand.
