PUTRAJAYA: A general manager at a government agency has been remanded for seven days for allegedly abusing his power by awarding projects to his wife's company.

Putrajaya magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Abdul Rahman allowed the application from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the 62-year-old to be remanded for investigation until next Wednesday.

MACC officers brought the man, handcuffed and clad in orange MACC lock-up attire, arrived at the court about 9.40am Thursday.

He is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC 2009 for abuse of power.

He was detained at his Kuala Lumpur office at 11am Wednesday by MACC investigators.

His wife, 38, was arrested separately at about the same time. She was, however, released after the MACC recorded her statement.

The general manager allegedly awarded over 50 projects to his wife, worth over RM1mil.
