GEORGE TOWN: Seven doctors were arrested for issuing false fitness medical certificates to drivers renewing their Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licences.
The scam was exposed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in a raid on seven clinics in Gelugor, Batu Ferringhi, Prai and Bukit Mertajam.
MACC director Datuk Abdul Aziz Aban said the team conducted the raids at the clinics from 3pm on Tuesday.
"The modus operandi of the doctors were to issue medical fitness certificates to all drivers, especially bus and taxi drivers without doing a medical check-up," Abdul Aziz told0 a press conference.
He added that most of the clinics had been in operation between four and 10 years.
MACC has applied for a remand order on the seven at the magistrate's court.
