‘Hadi’s Bill not in line with Constitution’

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s Private Member’s Bill is about enhancing punishments for crimes that are clearly outside the legal jurisdiction of the states, says constitutional expert Prof Datuk Dr Shad Saleem Faruqi.

He said any of the offences under the proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act (Act 355) must be related to matters not included in the Federal List – including murder, rape, robbery and theft.
