Firemen carrying out investigations inside the house in Subang Jaya

KUALA LUMPUR: Smoke inhalation was the cause of death of four in a family after their double-storey house caught fire in Jalan USJ 2/3, USJ 2, Subang Jaya.

Subang Jaya police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari said the cause of death was confirmed after post-mortems were conducted on Lim Ah Kok, 59, Goh Bee Khim, 51, Lim Yong Wei, 17 and Lim Yong Liang, 20, - at the Serdang Hospital.

"So far, no criminal element has been reported in the matter, but we are still waiting for the forensic report from the Fire and Rescue Department," he told Bernama.

ACP Azlin said police believed there was no criminal element in the incident as the fire started on the ground floor while all four victims were found on the first floor.

"If there was criminal element or if anyone purposely started a fire with the intention of killing the victims, he would have done it outside the rooms on the first floor and not on the ground floor," he said.

In the 5.30am incident, three of the victims were found dead in the bedrooms while another was found dead in the bathroom of the house which was 80 per cent gutted in the fire.

The remains of the four will be sent home to their village in Butterworth, Penang tonight.

"Post-mortems were completed late this evening and we will take them home to Butterworth and the funeral is expected to be on Friday," said Victor Goh, a nephew of Bee Khim.
