Contamination fear prompts move to salvage WWII relic

KOTA KINABALU: The move to salvage a World War II relic from waters off Teluk Usukan, some 90km from here, is being carried out due to fears of toxic contamination in the area.

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah said the WWII cargo vessel would be taken out because the vessel’s metal body may be causing contamination and affecting marine life in the bay popular as a fishing ground.
