JITRA: A 16-month-old male toddler has died after he fell off his baby hammock in a house at Taman Sera in Padang Sera near here on Monday.

Update: Further investigations indicate the baby was strangled by his pacifier strap, not the hammock

It is learnt that he died from asphyxiation after he got tangled in the hammock's harness at around 12.30pm on Monday.

A team from the police and the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital forensic team went to his parent's house to carry out an investigation Tuesday morning.

His father, a 39-year-old Malaysian, was seen at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital with his Thai wife and other relatives waiting to claim the victim's body following a post-mortem.

The cause of the toddler's death is still under investigation.
