PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested three drug addicts for theft.
Ampang deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Zaid Hassan said that a serial thief with a penchant for sport rims was arrested in Taman Bukit Permai on Jan 16.
"He was a lone ranger, acting alone.
"He focused on parking lots without security guards and cars left at the side on the road," said Supt Mohd Zaid at a press conference at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters on Thursday.
He said that the suspect - who is in his 30s - targeted rims that could be easily removed with a spanner.
"The rims were sold at about RM30 to RM50 each. He needed the cash quickly because of his addiction, hence the cheap prices," said Supt Mohd Zaid.
He added that this suspect had been active for approximately one and a half years and that investigations were ongoing to track down all the rims stolen.
In a separate incident, two former convenience store workers in their 20s robbed their old workplace on Jan 13 to fund their drug habit, stealing 118 packets of cigarettes from the Pandan Indah shop.
"One of the staff recognised the robber despite them covering up. We arrested one of them at 11.40pm in Pandan Indah on the same day,” said Supt Mohd Zaid.
His accomplice was picked up by the police in Puchong the next day.
“Investigations showed that both were first-time robbers and had left the job just two months of work," said Supt Mohd Zaid.
