KOTA KINABALU: An elderly man almost jumped out of his first floor window and into a river in a bid to save himself as fire destroyed five houses in Kg Muhibbah Lama in Petagas here.

However, 76-year-old Harshad Said was stopped by a neighbour who rushed up the burning building to grab him to safety in the 2pm incident that left some six families homeless.
