PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said Malaysia's quota of haj pilgrims this year has returned to its original number of 27,800, from 22,320 previously.

"Haj quota for Malaysia has returned to its original quota of 27,800 compared to 22,320 previously," he said on his Facebook page Tuesday.

The increase is the first since a decision in 2013 reduced the quota by 20% for each country due to extension work at the Grand Mosque.

Najib thanked the Saudi government for raising the quota back to its original number
