Search for missing fisherman after boat sinks

Missing: Low from Pangkor.

BALIK PULAU: A search has been launched for a fisherman after his boat sank off Muka Head near here.

Two other fishermen who were on board with Low Kiau Ming, 56, were rescued by a passing boat.

The boat sank at about 8.30am yesterday.

They had gone out to sea at 1pm on Thursday and were returning to Teluk Bahang at that time.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has deployed a ship and speedboat to look for Low, who is from Pangkor.

MMEA District II director Kapt Rozali Mohd Said said Civil Defence Force personnel, marine police and firemen were assisting in the search.

“They are patrolling near the coastal areas,” he said.

Kapt Rozali advised those in fishing boats to take necessary safety mea-sures.

He added that small boats for tourists should not operate during bad weather.

He said the search for Low would resume at 7.30am today.
