Thanksgiving ritual: Thulaashi (second left), her father A. Suppiah and other family members conducting the special prayer on the beach near Miami Cafe in Batu Ferringhi.

GEORGE TOWN: Colourful flower petals were strewn into the sea off Miami Cafe in Tanjung Bungah during a solemn prayer to thank Lord Shiva for keeping miracle baby S. Thulaashi safe from the deadly tsunami in 2004.

Her father A. Suppiah, 67, said the family would conduct the special pooja annually on Dec 26.

“We pray for peace and for the souls of those who passed on that day,” he said yesterday.

The family conducted the Atma Shanti Pooja by the sea for about 20 minutes.

On Boxing Day in 2004, Thulaashi was swept out to sea when she was just 22 days old and then floated back to shore, still sound asleep on her mattress.

Thulaashi, 12, will be starting her next chapter of education at St George’s Girls’ School on Tuesday.
