A YOUNG man from Henan province in China had to pay an 80,000 yuan (RM51,400) dowry, buy a car and put a downpayment for a house before he could marry his girlfriend. In all, he had to spend about 500,000 yuan (RM321,000), reported China Press.
Xiao Yang, 27, said his girlfriend’s family wanted the dowry and a car worth more than 100,000 yuan (RM64,000) for the woman to drive around in.
