KUALA LUMPUR: Over 25 squatter houses were razed to the ground in a fire in Old Klang Road Tuesday evening.
City Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Samsol Maarif Saibani said the fire broke out at the squatter area located next to Scott Garden at about 7.40pm.
He said the 25 semi-wooden houses were completely destroyed but firemen managed to save over 30 other houses in the area.
Samsol said fortunately the water supply in the area resumed at about 4pm after the area was affected by supply disruption.
He said there were no reported casualties in the fire which could have been caused by short-circuit.
Some 80 firemen in 10 engines were able to bring the fire under control after about an hour.
The fire caused a massive traffic jam on the Old Klang Road heading to the city centre.
