KUALA LUMPUR: The police will submit their investigation papers to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for the next course of action following the arrest of cartoonist Zunar, says Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Sukri Kaman.
He said Zunar was picked up with four others at an event here on Saturday. All of them were released on bail yesterday morning after being detained at the Dang Wangi police headquarters.
On Saturday, police raided a fundraising event with Zunar’s fans at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
The four detained were Zunar’s sales assistants Megat Abdul Wahid and Lawrence Jeyaraj, DAP member Jimmy Wong and a fan who wished to be known as A. Toong.
Their lawyer Nicole Tan said Zunar, Megat and Lawrence were being investigated under Section 124c of the Penal Code for activities detrimental to parliamentary democracy.
“Wong and Toong are being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties,” she said.
Tan added that all five had reserved their right to remain silent to police questions.
Zunar maintained that he did not break any law as the “Tea With Zunar” function was a private event with fans.
“I lost about RM30,000 when my comic books were confiscated when I was arrested in Penang recently. I was holding this event to cover my losses, but they took away another RM30,000 worth of books again,” he added.
Zunar said the police told him that they would be seeking a court order to ban his books.
