Large turnout at Datuk businessman's funeral

GEORGE TOWN: A large number of mourners gathered at the funeral of slain businessman Datuk Ong Teik Kwong at the Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi funeral parlour in Bandar Baru, Air Itam.

The sound of drums drowned the prayers and rituals with many arriving as early as 8am, Monday for the procession.

Hundreds of volunteer workers and RELA personnel were on duty directing the crowd and the traffic along the route to the funeral parlour.

Ong was shot dead by his bodyguard on Thursday night, allegedly following an argument.

Two other people were killed and five injured by stray bullets when the 37-year-old bodyguard opened fire targeting Ong's business partner.

Ong was laid to rest in Relau on late Monday morning.
