Dirty deeds: Used oil discharge seen in a drain at a housing estate in Tawau. The oil then flows into the Tawau River where pollution problems are growing.

TAWAU: Environmental authorities have begun to crack the whip on those who pollute the Tawau River, a vital source of water for folks here.

Pollutants, such as used oil and diesel among others, were poured into a network of drains in Tawau town which flowed to the river.
