KUALA LUMPUR: A video of two armed robbers threatening a motorist after he knocked into them as they were robbing a woman in Taman Midah, Cheras, is making its rounds on social media.
The 51-second clip, presumably taken from a house in the area, shows two men on a motorcycle involved in a confrontation with the driver of a Honda Insight and a passenger.
Screams and blaring horns can be heard as one of the armed assailants is seen hitting the car while another has a traffic cone thrown at him.
Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Chong Kok Sin said the incident occurred at about 2pm on Thursday.
“The victim, a 19-year-old, was chatting with a friend outside her house in Jalan Midah Tengah 2 in Taman Midah when the two men on a motorcycle approached them, brandishing a parang and demanding cash and valuables,” he said yesterday.
He said both the victim and her friend complied out of fear. They lost an iPhone 5, a Nokia mobile phone and RM210 cash.
“In their haste to flee, the suspects hit a Honda Insight and both men were thrown off their machine.
“One of the occupants of the car got out, grabbed a traffic cone and threw it at one of the suspects.
“The other suspect waved a parang at the driver and slashed his right arm,” he said, adding that both men managed to flee but left behind a sling bag and watch.
ACP Chong said the sling bag contained a spanner and screw driver.
“The victims did not get a good look at the suspects who had helmets with dark visors on,” he said.
The rider was clad in a dark-coloured T-shirt and trousers while the pillion was wearing a red helmet and a white-and-green T-shirt and shorts.
ACP Chong added that the motorcycle they used had a fake licence plate bearing the registration number WXD 5357 which belonged to a car.
He urged anyone with information on the case to contact the police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, police are hunting for a man who robbed a 24-hour convenience store armed with what is believed to be a pistol.
The robbery happened at the store along Jalan Batu Amabar in Taman Kok Lian at about 3am yesterday.
“The suspect, wearing jeans and a red shirt, entered on the pretext of wanting to buy a prepaid top-up card and cigarettes.
“While the cashier was scanning the items for purchase, the suspect showed him an object resembling a pistol in his sling bag and demanded money,” said Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy.
He said the man then grabbed RM100 from the cash register before escaping with a box of cigarettes.
“We urge him to surrender immediately,” he added.
