PETALING JAYA: Political cartoonist Zunar has been arrested, said George Town OCPD Asst Comm Mior Faridalathrash Wahid.

"I can confirm that Zulkiflee Bin SM Anwarul Haque @ Zunar (pic) was arrested at IPD Timur Laut," said ACP Mior in a statement on Saturday evening.

He said that Zunar's arrest was made under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948.

"An investigation is also being carried out under Section 504 of the Penal Code," added ACP Mior.

Section 504 of the Penal Code makes it an offence to insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

On Friday, an exhibition by Zunar ended abruptly after a group of between 20 and 30 people stormed the event.

The group - led by Penang Umno Youth chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim - stormed the venue at Level 3, Komtar, at about 2.45pm.

The incident occurred about three hours after the event was launched by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.

Rafizal demanded that Zunar take down the exhibition posters, which the latter did at about 3.15pm.

The exhibition, which was supposed to run for three days, featured posters deemed offensive to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
