PETALING JAYA: Six more people have been hauled up by the police, including student activists Anis Syafiqah Md Yusof in a slew of arrests of Bersih and Red Shirt leaders and supporters.

Activist Muhammad Safwan Anang is the latest to be arrested in a police dragnet before Saturday's Bersih 5 and red-shirts rallies.

This brings the total number of people arrested to at least 12 before midnight as a police sweep continued through the night.

Anis Syafiqah told The Star Online that she had been picked up by police at her home in Petaling Jaya at about 8.30pm on Friday and was taken to the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters.

She said she was arrested under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.

Safwan was reported to have been detained while he was with a PKR politician at Janda Baik in Pahang.

Also arrested on Friday were DAP members Jimmy Wong and Lee Khai Ming who had both used Facebook’s "check in" feature to show that they too had been brought to the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters.

It had been reported that Red Shirts activists identified as Razali Zakaria and Ariffin Abu Bakar were also arrested by police.

Earlier in the day, police arrested Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and Bersih secretariat officer Mandeep Singh.

Police also arrested DAP's Seremban MP Anthony Loke and former Pandamaran assemblyman Ronnie Liu, Parti Socialis Malaysia (PSM) leader S. Arutchelvan, and student activist Luqman Nul Hakim Zul Razali.
