PETALING JAYA: The surprise announcement on Tuesday night by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove the 500 and 1,000 rupee notes from circulation has left things up in the air for moneychangers here and those planning to travel there.

An Indian High Commission official said it was waiting for an official circular before it would be able to advise those in Malaysia on how to clear the rupee notes.
