PUTRAJAYA: Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte was given a red carpet welcome when he arrived at Dataran Putra to kickstart his official visit to Malaysia.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak welcomed Duterte, who arrived at Perdana Putra building at 4.30pm.
After the national anthems of Malaysia and Philippines were played, the visiting President inspected the guard of honour mounted by 103 officers and men of the First Royal Malay Regiment led by Mejar Azlan Shah Baharom.
He was then introduced to members of the Cabinet, top government officials and the diplomatic corps.
Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Paul Low, who is the minister in attendance, were also present.
Najib and Duterte then proceeded to delegation meetings to discuss issues of common interest and concerns.
It is learnt that security is top on the agenda of the meetings.
This is Duterte's first visit to Malaysia after he assumed the presidency in June.
This is his eighth Asian stop following visits to Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brunei, China, Japan and Thailand.
