Ministry: 1MDB debts not classified as national debt

Under the agreement reached at the London Court of International Arbitration, 1MDB said among others it has agreed to make certain payments to IPIC and would assume responsibility for all future interest and principal payments for two bonds issued by the 1MDB group of companies due in 2022.

THE debts of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and its related projects are not classified as national debt, says the Finance Ministry.

In a written response to Teresa Kok (DAP-Seputeh), the ministry said any debt incurred by the state investment arm did not contribute to the Government debts.
