RIYADH: Malaysians working abroad must always live up to the high regard held for them for their quality of service, said Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that Saudi Arabia, for instance, had acknowledged Malaysia for its manpower expertise in various fields.
He noted that Malaysian professionals and nurses working in Saudi Arabia “are regarded as the best among Asean countries and paid handsomely”.
“We have a standard of service that is on par with developed countries such as the United States and Britain,” he said at a dinner with the Malaysian community here on Thursday.
Among those present were Dr Ahmad Zahid’s wife, Datin Seri Hamidah Khamis, and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia.
There are about 250 Malaysians living in Riyadh, including professionals, nurses and students.
Dr Ahmad Zahid said that the Government prioritised standards and quality when sending its manpower abroad to take up jobs in critical fields.
“Malaysians are highly paid not just in recognition of their skills and professional ability.
“It is the standards which our professionals and nurses have never compromised; that is what's great about Malaysians,” he said.
