PETALING JAYA: Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was among several leaders who had taken to social media to express his condolences over the passing of Tengku Faridah Almarhum Sultan Abu Bakar, the sister of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah.
Tengku Faridah passed away at the Gleneagles Hospital in Jalan Ampang at 10.05am on Wednesday due to cervical cancer at the age of 70.
“My wife's aunt passed away peacefully - Al Fatihah . She will be missed,” said Hishammuddin on Twitter Thursday morning.
Earlier, several leaders had posted messages of condolences on social media following the news.
“Condolences to Tengku’s family and to the Royal Family of Pahang. May her soul be blessed and placed among the pious. Al-Fatihah,” said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
“Condolences to the Sultan of Pahang and to the Royal Family on the passing of His Excellency’s sister, YAM Tengku Faridah,” tweeted Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.
Liow was joined by other leaders such as Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The remains of Tengku Faridah were laid to rest at the Jalan Ampang cemetery after Zohor prayers on Wednesday.
