PETALING JAYA: The submission deadline for The Star Outstanding Business Awards (SOBA) 2016 has been extended to Oct 21, a week past its initial deadline, to cater to the overwhelming enquiries.
This extension will benefit companies requiring more time to prepare their submissions and also give those outside the Klang Valley adequate time to send in their applications.
The submissions can be couriered to or dropped off at Menara Star by 5pm on Oct 21.
SOBA, which honours up-and-coming local, non-listed companies and small and medium enterprises, is in its seventh year. SOBA is open to all local enterprises that are not part of a multinational or listed group, and incorporated in Malaysia with foreign equity not exceeding 50%.
This year, the awards will have two broad categories – one for enterprises with a turnover of more than RM25mil and the other for those that have generated less than RM25mil per annum – to recognise the achievements of upcoming small businesses as well as more established SMEs.
SOBA has seven “Top-Of-The-Class” awards, namely, best in marketing, best brand, best in CSR, best green initiative, best employer, best innovation and best global market, as well as three “Outstanding Achievement” awards, which are rising star, entrepreneur of the year (male/female/young) and Malaysian business of the year.
This year, the Grand and Platinum winners will receive editorial publicity in the SMEBiz pullout, while Gold and Silver winners will receive editorial publicity in the MetroBiz pages of StarMetro.
Winners will also take home the coveted SOBA trophy, be eligible for preferential rates for advertisements in The Star carrying the SOBA logo, have the rights to use the SOBA logo/monogram on corporate and A&P collaterals, gain exposure through publicity (print and online), and get the opportunity to attend and speak at special talks organised by The Star.
Those who wish to participate may obtain the awards submission pack from The Star or download the forms from the microsite at www.soba.com.my.
SOBA 2016 is organised by The Star with AmBank as its main sponsor. The awards is co-sponsored by BMW Malaysia, Credit Guarantee Corp and Matrade while Connexion Conference and Event Centre is the official venue sponsor for this year’s event.
It is endorsed by the Secretariat for the Advancement of Malaysian Entrepreneurs (SAME), supported by Bursa Malaysia and audited by BDO with 988 and Suria FM as the official radio stations.
