MCA: DAP in quandary after Anwar's invitation to PAS to join Pakatan

PETALING JAYA: MCA on Wednesday has questioned DAP as to whether the party would accept PAS into the Pakatan Harapan fold as said by its advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

MCA religious harmony bureau chairman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker in a statement had asked if DAP would now "roar or paw".

"Now that Anwar has said Pakatan Harapan would invite PAS into their fold, where will DAP be?

"Will DAP eat humble pie and remain in political 'illicit close proximity' with PAS," he asked.

He then hit out at DAP for previously having entrusted the Kelantan "power base" to PAS.

"It was DAP together with Semangat 46 that empowered PAS by handing over the Kelantan state coffers and power base to them.

"Since then, PAS has evolved from a rural party of little significance to a giant ogre muscling unto Umno and forcing Umno to abandon moderation to toe PAS' line or brand of religious extremism," he said.

Ti then asked if DAP would come forth and deny PAS' entry into Pakatan.

"Will DAP continue to play deaf and dumb in view of this latest development?

"Will DAP come out courageously to say 'no' to PAS in Pakatan or play the meek Mickey Mouse out of political expediency and opportunity," he asked.

He was saying this as a response to a statement by Anwar on Wednesday which said that Pakatan and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) would negotiate with PAS to strengthen the Opposition.
