PETALING JAYA: Former Umno top brass Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal will only cannibalise support from the current Opposition, said Kota Belud MP Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
"The defection of PKR's Penampang MP proves it," said Abdul Rahman in a tweet on his official account @mpkotabelud on Friday night.
He added that while PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is "mesmerised" by Dr Mahathir, the former prime minister's associates in Sabah have "pulled a fast one on his party and stole his MP from right under his nose".
Abdul Rahman added that he foresees more politicians and supporters leaving PKR and Parti Amanah Negara for Dr Mahathir's party.
"Let's see if Azmin will still cozy up to Tun Mahathir despite Tun Mahathir and his team stealing his MP. Or will PKR president Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail reprimand Azmin for being easily blind-sided by Mahathir and his team," said the Barisan Nasional strategic communications director.
It was reported on Thursday that Penampang MP Darell Leiking has quit PKR to join former Umno vice-president Datuk Shafie Apdal's new Sabah-based party.
"I left PKR recently. I did not announce it. I am not like others who make big announcements," Leiking told The Star.
"I have spoken to Dr Wan Azizah and given her my views, which she respected and I also respect her views," he said.
The first-term MP, who was a PKR vice-president, said he had also informed key PKR members of his resignation.
Leiking said he would team up with Shafie and other Sabah opposition leaders.
